The last beat sent you flying, the expectation of the next pulls you down to the dancefloor again, and in between there’s this brief moment of weightlessness, of zero gravity, just like on the peak of one of those airtime hills in a roller coaster. That’s how it feels in the rhythms of René Bourgeois. On his techno-tinged The Message EP the producer from Berlin lets obscure phonographic samples, inner monologues and intoxicating melodic extracts flow through the maze of the human brain as if they were colourful ceramic marbles rolling through channels in carved and polished wood. Someone said techno-tinged? Green Lake Project just showed up for a remix that unfolds its minimalist grace and subtle tension around the relentless boom of its bassline.
